A Day Well Spent in Granada, Spain
Granada, Spain

How often can you say you’ve skied in the mountains and taken a dip in the ocean in the very same day? If you travel to Granada, Spain then that idea can become a reality. Traveling to Granada anytime from November through April offers people the opportunity to hit the slopes and submerge in the sea in one day. If you love the outdoors and have a free weekend this semester abroad, round up your friends and consider taking a trip to Granada.

1. “Snowy Range” Skiing or Snowboarding

While you probably never thought you’d be able to ski in Spain, the mountains in Andalusia near Granada offer a great skiing or snowboarding opportunity. The Sierra Nevada Mountains, meaning “snowy range,” have the highest peak in Spain. The resort has over 100 runs available and a snowboard freestyle park. Buses run from Granada to Sierra Nevada and the ride is roughly an hour.

2. Swimming in the afternoon of Costa Tropical

After a morning of skiing, take a ride to the beach and swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Located about an hour away from Granada, the Costa Tropical offers numerous beaches for people to enjoy the ocean, sand, and view. Popular beaches to check out are Salobreña and Calahonda.

3. A view of La Alhambra at night

After a packed day of activities, enjoy the city of Granada during the night. The Alhambra is a palace and fortress with a long history; the earliest documents about the Alhambra date back to the 9th Century. The beauty, architecture, and decoration of this castle are unforgettable, especially in the spring when the gardens are in full bloom. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are in the backdrop of this beautiful palace, and during the night the lights of the Alhambra turn on and it is quite a sight. Finding a spot to admire the lit up Alhambra is the perfect end to a full day. Granada will not disappoint!
