Final School Week in Cadiz

by Claire D. This final full week here in Cadiz went by extremely quickly and was filled with fun activities. On Monday, instead of having normal classes, our entire group took a trip to the flea market in New Cadiz. We spent the morning completing a scavenger hunt for our classes and were then given some free time to shop. Everything was extremely barato, or cheap. The next day, after class, we all took another group trip to the Torre Tavira, the tallest tower in Cadiz. This tower offers unparalleled views of the city from the top. Inside the tower, there is a room with a large plate, which is connected to a telescope at the top of the tower. Through this telescope, you can actually see Cadiz in live motion, projected onto this plate. It was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Claire D. tower view Wednesday, we had our regular classes during the day, but at night, we all gathered at the beach for a tapas contest. Earlier in the day, each group of roommates was given 10 Euros and were taken to a local supermarket. There, we were told to buy any ingredients that we thought we may need to create our own “tapa” dish. My roommate and I created mini hamburgers with lettuce. Other groups brought anything from fried pickles to a combination of brownies, cookie dough, and Oreos. Although our group didn’t win, we all had a really good time hanging out on the beach and eating. Friday, we spent our class time in the morning watching a film called “Ocho Apellidos Vascos.” This was a “romcom” like movie, and was very funny. It was about a man from the South who wanted to marry a woman from the North, and how their two cultures conflicted. Later that day, those of us in the photography elective had an exposition to show off our pictures. That night, we went to a Moroccan Tea House and spent time together. Adios!
