Cuisine & Conversation – Florence Session 1

By Simone Onnis, Cuisine & Conversation Instructor, Abbey Road Florence Staff My name is Simone Onnis and although I am Italian by birth, I now live in New York City.  I would like to begin by saying what a great pleasure it has been for me to guide the students participating in the Cuisine & Conversation course.  The whole group showed interest, curiosity, and involvement, making every lesson a simple task and a very pleasant experience. My intention throughout the duration of the program has been to open a window onto the typical Italian household and therefore show my students how regular Italian families eat on a day-to-day basis. IMG_7173 Lessons started with one of the simplest dishes: sugo al pomodoro – just a few simple ingredients, and it is transformed into an absolutely delicious dish.  We then moved on to learning how to make several different types of risottos.  We did my special version of chicken cacciatore, baked a whole fish under salt (orata), and last but not least – learned how to make the ever-so-popular tiramisú. IMG_7372 The students will showcase their new culinary skills at a final banquet for students and staff.  Here’s hoping everyone enjoys the feast as much as we enjoyed preparing it!
