Art History class at Uffizi Gallery, Basilica San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapel
by Student, Emma S. , London

Monday afternoon meant photography class, where we went to a street market. Jacopo gave us different objects to photograph, such as people with hats, and we had 10 minutes to complete each task. I thought it was a lot of fun and helped us to look closer for small details in a large crowd.

On Tuesday morning for Art History, we visited the Basilica San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapel. Both of the churches were breathtaking and the architecture and design was amazing. We saw many relics collected and commissioned by the Medici family, and saw the tombs of six of the most important family members. There were also sculptures by Michelangelo commissioned by the family which we got to see. We then went to the Medici library, which was designed by Michelangelo as well. For the rest of Tuesday we had lunch, explored Florence a bit more and did some shopping.

Florence Art History Class

Art History class on Wednesday brought us to the Uffizi Gallery. We saw many masterpieces including Botticelli’s ‘The Birth of Venus’ and ‘La Primavera’, and Michelangelo’s ‘Sacra Famiglia’. It was so interesting to see the wide range of art in the gallery and map the differences between the different time periods.
