Vienna’s Cultural History

On day 15, we took a look at Vienna’s cultural history with a special private tour of the new opera house, Theater an der Wien. We also caught a glimpse of the Secession building with the golden dome, which is right next door.

For lunch, students strolled around the famous Nachsmarkt (where chefs from around Vienna go to get the most fresh and unusual ingredients). Many macaroons later, several headed out for a free afternoon of exploring more of Vienna’s shopping districts while others stuck to the history and toured the mausoleum of the Habsburgs, followed by St. Stephen’s cathedral and crypt.

We squeezed in Sigmund Freud’s house as well. After this long day, we headed to the outskirts of Vienna for in dinner at a Turkish restaurant and then had dessert at the main event of Vienna in the summer: A film festival with wonderful food booths from top restaurants throughout the city!
