Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow, Berlin

Today was our last day in Berlin! 1040364_10201396964753019_1059836345_o1048794_10201396985313533_337682294_o

This morning, we had a free morning with a few options. Some students returned to Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust Memorial with our documentary filmmakers, Justyna and Max, to help them film a portion of a documentary they are making about Abbey Road Programs. Many students were also interviewed by the film crew about their experience thus far and their thoughts on studying abroad. Others went west to the Charlottenburg Palace and perused the old summer grounds of Frederick the I and Fredrick the Great. A small group took a picnic to the Tiergarden and later climbed up the Victory Column.

We all met up at 2:30pm to wend our way to the St. Nikolai area, a medieval quarter of the city where we met up with an entrepreneurial company that gives historical bike tours of Berlin. While we were initially caught in a rain storm, like in Hawaii, the weather cleared up within 15 minutes and blue skies returned quickly. Students took a nearly 3-hour tour around the city, seeing many sites they had not seen before, as well as re-tracing steps from our previous days. It was a great way to say farewell to this beautiful city!

We ended our day at a world music festival and food fair in the Kreuzberg near our hotel. Now we’re getting ready to pack and leave at the early hour of 5:45am tomorrow.

Berlin, we will see you again in the future… On to Prague!
