When In…Berlin

While I have been lucky enough to experience many cool cities abroad, Berlin has to be one of my favorites. From the delicious food to the rich history, this German city has it all. Here are a few of my must-sees in Berlin. Enjoy!

1. Brandenburg Gate

One of Berlin’s most famous sites is this beautiful gate. Although I won’t give any spoilers, the Brandenburg Gate has an interesting history and is a must-see/read for all you history buffs out there. It is located in the middle of Berlin, making it a perfect meeting spot or just a good point of reference.

2. Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

This memorial also has an interesting story behind it, and I encourage everyone to not only visit this monument but to also research the inspiration behind its architecture. The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is an extensive labyrinth of concrete blocks that vary in size, length, and height. It is an eerie yet powerful statement that reminds us to never forget the past. This memorial should definitely be at the top of your list.

3. The Berlin Wall

Of course, a trip to Berlin would not be complete without seeing the Berlin Wall. I highly suggest taking a walking tour of Berlin, as you will be able to see other important spots in Berlin, including the wall, and learn about the history leading up to the construction of the Berlin Wall and after its destruction.

4. Explore the Berlin Graffiti

As a hip and young town, Berlin has some amazing street art and even some history to go along with the beautiful graffiti that covers the city. Although it is easy to find the buildings covered in spray paint, I recommend taking a tour of the city that is just for graffiti! You get to learn about some of Germany’s finest street artists and explore different parts of Berlin that are just off the beaten path.
