On Monday afternoon we had our first elective class. I chose photography and I learnt a lot in a couple hours. We learnt how to manually operate our cameras and experimented with different shutter speeds and aperture settings. It was so nice to work outside in the city. In the evening we were given dinner stipends and got to choose where to eat in smaller groups. Even after only a few days, we started to learn our way around without a map.
The next day, we only had morning classes. In Art History we went to the Universita’ Degli Studi Di Firenze to look at medieval and renaissance paintings. It was a beautiful building and it was so interesting to see the monks’ residences with individual frescoes.
In the afternoon we went back to the local pool to cool off and relax. That evening we got to go for dinner again in smaller groups and then got free time to explore. We got some gelato and then walked to the Ponte Vecchio.
Early on Wednesday we went to the Church of Santa Croce. Inside we saw many works of art and the tombs of Galileo, Machiavelli and Michelangelo. The church had some amazing frescoes and a huge stained glass window above the altar.
