INITIATIVE ON SAFETY AND STUDY ABROAD

Initiative on Safety and Study Abroad: Rising to the Challenge

discover program

Founded 20 years ago by the researchers and alumni of the Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, Abbey Road has taken the lead on addressing global security challenges and their impact on international education and cultural exchange.

The Initiative on Safety and Study Abroad brings together a group of study abroad administrators, educators, group leaders, and security professionals from the United States, Europe and beyond. This working group of experts will serve as a platform for exchanging important information and practical recommendations, provide a support network uniting many organizations and individuals in our industry, allowing all of us to work together in order to ensure the safety of our students abroad.

We intend to take a proactive approach to safety and formulate a collective response to the emerging challenges. We know that despite periodic incidents, people continue to travel, study abroad and live their normal lives. It’s a matter of remaining alert, well informed and prepared, taking precautions, having a plan of action and a support network. We hope that our initiative will contribute to these efforts.

An important part of our mission is to keep our students, parents and colleagues informed of the recent travel advisories issued by the U.S. State Department, remain in close contact with American Embassies abroad, European authorities and law enforcement.

Our group will hold periodic online conferences with parents and students. These conferences will give you a chance to ask questions and participate in a discussion with other parents and students. To participate in the conference, simply contact us by phone, email or “live chat” and we will let you know about the next scheduled time.

We remain at your disposal at any time for any questions or concerns.

Warm regards,
