Benvenuto a Firenze!

Saluti da Firenze! (Greetings from Florence!)  We are happy to share that the group arrived safely after a long journey from the U.S.  After arriving at the residence, students met their new roommates, enjoyed panini from a favorite local shop, and called home to share the news of their arrival with you.  They spent the afternoon unpacking, resting, and relaxing.

Our first evening in Florence included a leisurely walk from our residence through the most famous piazzas in the city.  Though many of us were tired, it was amazing to see the students’ reactions to the awe-inspiring Duomo and sunset over the Ponte Vecchio.  Carrie, our wonderful Program Coordinator and resident Renaissance expert provided many interesting anecdotes and our very own professional artist (and Super Arts instructor) Lindsay spoke to the artistic significance of many pieces as well.  Jacopo, our expert photography and Art History instructor documented the entire evening- you’ll notice some of photos along with this post.

We enjoyed a delicious group dinner at Osteria dei Pazzi (a staff favorite- we were so excited to bring the students there!)- bruschetta, pastas of all kinds, caprese salad- a perfect introduction to the culinary wonderland we have just arrived in.  And of course, we finished the night with gelato- the perfect end to a long, exciting day.

Tomorrow begins orientation where students will become familiar with Florence, Italian customs, and how to live and learn like a true Florentine.  We are so happy to be here and to be starting this adventure together! Now, time for some rest- check back soon to learn more about our first few days.
