Arrival in Nice!

Today was our first full day in Nice. When I had arrived, I was overly exhausted due to the 6 hour time difference, but nonetheless was swept away by the serene beauty of this place. From the airport, we’d hopped on the bus which had taken us to our residence; La Segurane. Each person has their own personal room accompanied with a kitchenette, a bathroom, a shower, a closet with drawers and hangers, a fan, a desk, and even a personal mini fridge (which I was the most excited about).

The staff at Abbey Road had provided us with delectable chocolate croissants, fresh fruit, and ham and cheese on baguettes in one of the classrooms downstairs. After our stomachs were full, we’d decided to set out on the town.

As a group, we got to walk around and explore the city a little bit. Arthur, the program director, had explained that Nice only has shopping sales twice a year, and conveniently, now was one of those times.  This had now meant that all of our wallets would most likely be empty by the end of the trip.

After this, we had gone to walk around ourselves for a little. I was lucky enough to pick up a raspberry macaroon which was truly one of the best things I’ve tasted in a very long time. For dinner, we were taken to an Italian restaurant with Gnocchi, pork pâté, apple tart, and so much more (some of my personal favorites). That night, our curfew was 11:30, and we had all gone back early due to being extremely jet lagged. I cannot wait for everything else that’s about to happen and for all that Nice has to give us!

From a fresh breakfast to a refreshing walk along the boardwalk, my morning in Nice was très bon. What started as a very good class turned into a real-life experience when we moved it to the streets to interact with French people.

After class, we proceeded to cool off on the beach of Villefranche Sur-Mer. We got to go snorkeling, and you wouldn’t believe the things we saw. Some people got to touch sea urchins; I had one stuck to the top of my head! One of the snorkel instructors even touched an octopus that looked back up at us. It was extraordinary! We arrived back at the residence to an all you can eat sushi buffet, followed along by Spanish dancing in the streets of Nice.

Today was awesome and I can’t wait to see what’s more to come.
